FINDING BALANCE ALGORITHM

Falls History

Ask:

  • "In the past year, have you had a fall?" (This would include a slip or trip where you lost your balance and ended up on a lower level)

  • “Has that happened more than once?”

  • “Did you hurt yourself?” If so, “How did you hurt yourself?”

 

Conduct a Multifactorial Falls Risk Assessment 

- If the answers is yes to more than one "fall" in the past year

- If there was one or more injurious falls that occured in the past year

Provide General Advice

- If the answer is no to any "falls" in the past year

- If there was only one non-injurious fall in the past year
